Do Not Change Food Late

Transport is already a stress event. New food can add stomach trouble at the worst time. Keep the diet boring unless your veterinarian says otherwise.

If your pet has a sensitive stomach, tell the operator before booking. That can affect stop timing, cleanup needs, and whether shared transport is a good fit.

How Much Food To Pack

Pack pre-measured meals for each day of transport plus at least two extra meals. Label bags by day and meal if the route is long.

For cats, small pets, or pets on prescription diets, pack exact food and written instructions. Do not assume the operator can buy the same food on the road.

Meal Timing

Many pets travel better when they are not fed a heavy meal right before motion. But puppies, toy breeds, diabetic pets, and pets on medication may need a different plan.

Ask your vet about timing if your pet has any medical issue. Then write the plan down for the transporter.

Medication And Special Diets

If food is tied to medication, make that obvious. Write medication name, dose, time, whether it needs food, and what to do if the pet refuses a meal.

Send pills in labeled containers. Do not send loose pills in a plastic bag with no instructions.

Safety note: If your pet has diabetes, kidney disease, seizures, recent surgery, or prescription food, ask your vet for transport-specific feeding instructions.

What To Write Down

Write the food brand, amount, meal time, treat rules, allergies, stomach history, and emergency contact. Include what is normal for your pet and what is not.

Operators are good at moving pets, but they are not mind readers. Clear notes reduce mistakes.
